About Mermaid of Portobello

A business built from passion in every area of the mineral kingdom from Geology to Gemmology. It started with mining at the age of 5, bottom up and chiseling ammonites and crystals out of the local rock to Jo’s childhood home in Ibiza, The homes name is Portobello and the symbol of the house is a mermaid so the name honours the origination point of a inherent passion for the mineral kingdom.

Jo is a fully qualified gemmologist and F.G.A from the Gemological Association in Hatton Garden and has worked with some of the greatest names in Fine Jewellery including Jocelyn Burton, Solange Azurgury Partridge, and RobinsonPelham among others. Also within the diamond realm  with names such as B.G.I, Vainer Brothers and Lawerence Graff. She is working with a highly qualified jeweller in London to create the private commissions, along with manufacturers to design interior pieces from Quartz shower walls, Agate tables and Selenite lighting.

Combining experience from working in The British Gemmological Institute laboratory grading and certifying stones to designing with Jewellers as well as hunting quality pieces at auction and at the mines throughout the globe, Mermaid of Portobello is a location for well priced gemstones, vintage pieces and rock art for interior decoration.  Consultation on interiors is available with advice based on Feng shui and understanding of bridging the realms of science and spirituality together.

After many years as a Yachtmaster sailing the oceans which cover 7/10ths of the globe. It has become apparent those waters are now being endangered and every little bit of help makes a difference which is why 2% of the sales from Mermaid of Portobello goes back into ocean conservation with Mission Blue, initiated by Sylvia Earle.
